So who is Olive? Or James, for that matter?

Olive and James Bakery is owned, operated, and fully staffed by me, Amy Moore. Yep, we're a huge operation, that's for sure.

In May of 2006, our family moved to Iowa City from Chicago. As a native Iowan, I have enjoyed the return to knowing our neighbors, weekly trips to the local Farmers' Market, and most importantly, being in a friendly and progressive community like Iowa City.

But let me back up a bit. In a previous life, I was an attorney who dreamed of making cakes for a living. I began making that dream a reality by retiring from the law and enrolling at the French Pastry School in Chicago. Upon graduation, I further honed my pastry chops at several bakeries before co-founding Two Tarts Cake Company in Chicago. I bring all these experiences with me to Olive and James Bakery.

I do not make pastries laden with preservatives so they can sit on a shelf for six months. I do not use canned pie filling or partially hydrogenated anything. I DO use butter, real cream, and fresh fruits and nuts.

I don't have a retail shop - all orders are made-to-order and available for pick up or delivery. My kitchen is right here in my home, and you can be assured that your order always gets top priority.

And Olive and James? My kitchen is on Olive Court here in Iowa City. My quality control supervisor is our baby son, James.
